What is children’s palliative care?
Children’s Palliative Care (CPC) improves the quality of life of children who have been diagnosed with serious illnesses and conditions that are life-threatening or that will shorten their lives. It is an holistic approach which cares for the body, mind and spirit of these children and their families.
More about the ICPCN conference
The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is a global network of professionals, non-professionals, parents and volunteers who work in the field of hospice and palliative care for children. Every 2 years the ICPCN holds a conference in parts of the world where children’s palliative care services are provided but are limited and where local health care providers would benefit from the resulting influx of global expertise.
Umduduzi, Hospice Care for Children
Umduduzi, Hospice Care for Children is a Durban based charity founded in 2012. (The English meaning of the isiZulu word ‘Umduduzi’ is ‘to provide comfort’.) Umduduzi works to bring compassion, dignity, relevant care and relief from discomfort and pain to children diagnosed with a life threatening or life limiting illness and is active in most of the public and private hospitals in Durban and surrounding areas, as well as within KZN. The wonderful work they do is showcased in this moving video, narrated by Devi Sankaree Govender from Carte Blanche. Find out more at www.umduduzi.co.za
Funds raised from this event will be used to provide support and registration scholarships to health care providers (e.g. nurses, doctors, social workers) living and working within South Africa to attend the 3rd ICPCN Conference to take place in Durban from 30 May – 2 June 2018.
The International Children’s Palliative Care Network and Durban based Umduduzi, Hospice Care for Children invite you to join us for a 5 Course Gourmet Meal paired with 5 South African wines at the acclaimed 1000 Hills Chef School overlooking the stunning Valley of 1000 Hills.
